Southbound I35 in Austin closed for law enforcement incident

An “active law enforcement incident” has prompted closures on Interstate 35.

The Texas Department of Transportation sent out a traffic alert shortly before 8 a.m. saying that all lanes of southbound I-35, both upper and lower decks, from U.S. 183 to Airport Boulevard are closed due to police activity.

The Austin Police Department originally said at 7:43 a.m. that the upper deck would be closed for several hours because of an “active law enforcement incident involving DPS” but the lower deck would stay open.

The agencies said to expect delays, avoid the area and look for alternative routes.
