SpaceX and Tesla are building a 100 million square foot facility they will call TeraFab- northwest of Houston in Grimes County. That’s 5 times larger than the current largest building in China. According to the website, the facility is designed as a vertically integrated chip factory combining logic, memory, and advanced packaging all under one roof.
The New Century Global Center in Chengdu, China, currently holds the record for the world’s largest building at about 18.9 million square feet.
Financial Strategist Mitch Kramer sys the initiative not only helps Texas its good for America. “Being in Texas, where we think bigger is better; I think that applies to spirit and entrepreneurism and innovation. We are the perfect breeding ground for people like Elon Musk who have big ideas. He really is a visionary. Being able to build ships your own ships here, he’s going to have a bunch of robots coming up- a lot of people who are older are going to need them. He said.
Phase 1 is projected to cost almost 17 billion dollars, bringing 3,000 jobs to the region with plans to use their own natural gas resources. Musk says they plan to recycle the Gibbons Reservoir.
It is too early to project the environmental footprint, as some residents oppose the initiative.
