Austin (KXAN) – Several community events are scheduled in Austin over the weekend of August 15 and 16, including a free screening of Wicked at Gregg-Clarke Park, the PCX Austin pop culture expo, the Festival of New Texas Plays, a soccer match between Austin FC and FC Dallas, and the Parade of India celebrating India’s Independence Day.

Movie in the Park
Looking for a good excuse to grab the family, a blanket, and watch a good movie? Wicked is the next feature film on the list for The City of Kyle’s Movie in the Park. Streaming on Friday, August 14 at Gregg-Clarke Park, the movie will be showing for free for the entire family. All you need to bring is some food, a cooler with drinks, a blanket and the family. Plus, your well behaved pet is welcome too, but must remain on a leash the entire time. There will be trash and recycle bins for you to use. The movie will begin at sundown. PCX Austin
Austin is know to bring celebrities and musicians from all around and now you can meet with your favorites at PCX Austin (Pop Culture Expo Austin). The newest convention in town runs Saturday and Sunday, August 15 and 16 at the Fairmont Austin in Downtown Austin. Celebrity guests include James Marsters (Buffy) Mikaela Hoover and Jeff Ward (One Piece Live Action Show), Rob Wiethoff and Roger Clark (Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2), and so many more. Festival of New Texas Plays
So many up and coming writers hope to have their newest work displayed and features and Playhouse Austin is giving them that chance. The Austin Playhouse Festival of New Texas Plays is a reading event where three selected plays will have their chance to shine with readings in front of an audience. Austin Playhouse selects works that features “vibrant storytelling” and “diverse voices.” on Saturday, August 15 Aces by Emilie Budjaja and Lulu Goes to the Jim Henson Memorial Service by Kleo James Ryan will be featured. Austin FC vs FC Dallas
Austin FC continue their season again a familiar rival on Sunday, August 16. FC Dallas will be stopping by Q2 stadium for a 7:30pm match. Austin FC is currently at 14 in the standings, with FC Dallas currently ranking at 6. Austin needs to start pulling out big wins as there aren’t as many games left in the season. Parade of India
Saturday, August 15 marks India’s Independence Day and to celebrate the special occasion, Monsoon Dance will be hosting their annual Parade of India at the Texas State Capitol. The event will run from 10am to 1pm and will feature performances, live music, a march and so much more. It will be completely free for the entire family.
