Getting around Fort Worth could take a little more planning this weekend.

Part of Interstate 30 in Fort Worth will close starting the night of Friday, Aug. 14 night and remain shut down through the morning of Monday, Aug. 17 for construction.

TxDOT is warning drivers who travel through the area to prepare for delays and to consider another route.

“Motorists will be directed through a signed detour,” TXDOT said in a post on X announcing the closure. “Alternate routes are advised.”

All eastbound entrance and exit ramps in the area will also close. Drivers will be directed to eastbound I-20 and northbound I-820 to get around the closure, while the I-30 frontage roads will remain open for local traffic.

Drivers heading the other direction will have to plan around another closure next weekend. Westbound I-30 between West Loop 820 and I-20 will close from 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, until 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24.

That shutdown will include the westbound entrance and exit ramps, with drivers directed to southbound I-820 and westbound I-20.

Why is I-30 closing in Fort Worth?

This weekend’s closure will allow crews to move eastbound I-30 traffic onto new permanent pavement.

The work is part of TxDOT’s Keep 20-30 Moving project, which includes three construction projects along I-20 and I-30 in western Tarrant County.

Together, the projects have a total construction cost of about $420 million, according to TxDOT.

Along I-30, crews are widening parts of the highway from two to three lanes in each direction, improving the I-30 and Spur 580 interchange and building new frontage roads.

The projects are expected to wrap up at different times, with the final portion between Linkcrest Drive and West Loop 820 expected to be completed in 2030.
