LAREDO, Texas – Federal agents say 22 people were rescued after being found hidden in a compartment beneath the wooden floor of a flatbed trailer in South Texas.
In a Facebook post, the United States Border Patrol said agents in the Laredo Sector saw a pickup truck towing a gooseneck flatbed trailer “circumvent an immigration checkpoint” and “immediately alerted surrounding law enforcement agencies and sectors.”
Border Patrol said the trailer was intercepted in Carrizo Springs, Texas, where agents found “22 illegal aliens crammed in a compartment underneath the wooden floor.”
According to Border Patrol, medical personnel cleared the people found in the trailer, and they are now being processed for deportation. Border Patrol said two U.S. citizens are facing human smuggling charges.
