The eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 reopened Thursday afternoon following a Fort Worth police investigation into an “apparent” road rage shooting that killed an Everman Independent School District employee.
According to a statement from Fort Worth police spokeswoman Cynthia Wood, officers were dispatched to the 3700 block of I-20 about 6:30 a.m. after reports of a shooting.
Once there, police found a woman, who wasn’t publicly identified, inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound. Witnesses told police the woman and the suspect had been traveling eastbound when the suspect pulled up and fired shots at her before fleeing the scene, Wood said.
Responders attempted life-saving measures, but the woman died at the scene, Wood said.
In a Thursday statement, Everman ISD spokeswoman Nikita Russell confirmed the woman who died was employed with the district.

“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the employee’s family, loved ones, colleagues, students and all those impacted by this loss,” Russell said.
Counseling and support resources will be available for those who need them, Russell said, and the district won’t be releasing any further information at this time.
Texas Department of Transportation traffic cameras showed free-moving traffic on both sides of the roadway shortly after 1 p.m. The investigation closed parts of I-20 for about six hours.
