EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — During a traffic stop involving juveniles, officers with the Horizon City Police Department discovered a loaded handgun, as well as both open and unopened alcoholic beverages.
Just after 1 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, officers observed a vehicle cut through a parking lot to avoid a traffic control device near Horizon Boulevard and Darrington Road, police said.
Officers made contact with three juveniles.
Police reported that during a pat-down, one of the juveniles became physically resistant and repeatedly attempted to prevent officers from checking his waistband and groin area.
An officer felt an object believed to be a handgun concealed on the juvenile, police said.
As officers attempted to detain the juvenile, he allegedly continued resisting while the other juveniles began approaching the officers.
Additional officers responded to assist, and all occupants were safely detained without further incident.
Officers stated the juvenile admitted that he was concealing a handgun.
A loaded Glock 17 handgun containing 17 rounds of ammunition was recovered by police.
Officers also found open and unopened alcoholic beverages inside the vehicle.
An investigation resulted in the other two juveniles being cited for minor in possession of alcohol and released to responsible parties.
The juvenile found in possession of the handgun was taken into custody for unlawful carrying of a weapon and minor in possession of alcohol.
He was taken to the Juvenile Probation Department and released to the custody of juvenile detention personnel.
