Suspect charged with criminal mischief accused of connection with string of burglaries

SAN ANTONIO – A man has been arrested in connection with a criminal mischief case tied to a broader investigation into a string of North Side burglaries, according to a Bexar County criminal arrest affidavit.

The affidavit identifies the defendant as 38-year-old John Luis Quintero. Investigators allege Quintero committed criminal mischief causing between $2,500 and $30,000 in damage on or about July 2, 2026, in Bexar County.

The San Antonio Police Department’s Property Crimes Task Force has been investigating a series of burglaries reported between February 2026 and July 2026 in the northern area of San Antonio, specifically within The Estates at Champions Run and Champions Ridge subdivisions. Investigators said significant amounts of U.S. currency and jewelry were stolen from the residences during the burglaries.

According to the affidavit, SAPD received an anonymous tip on July 23, 2026, from a person who said they had information relevant to the ongoing burglary investigations involving “luxury residences on the Northside of San Antonio.”

The tipster told police they recognized the male suspect due to a close personal relationship and reported the suspect had recently purchased a black Audi with cash and had been displaying significant amounts of money and jewelry. The tipster also told investigators the suspect was unemployed and had admitted to targeting the area to commit burglaries, the affidavit states.

The tipster identified the suspect as John Luis Quintero and provided his date of birth, according to the affidavit. Investigators later identified a black 2019 Audi Q7 registered to Quintero, the affidavit states. It also says the vehicle had previously been registered to someone at a previous address that was transferred into Quintero’s name on Aug. 6, 2026.

On Aug. 8, 2026, detectives were contacted by Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper B. Gutierrez about what the affidavit describes as a “credible and reliable” person with information about Quintero and burglaries in the Stone Oak area. Property Crimes Task Force detectives and Texas Ranger J. Perez interviewed the anonymous person, who identified the suspect as John “Louie” Quintero after being shown images, the affidavit states.

The affidavit says the person told investigators they had lived with Quintero for about one month and described characteristics and mannerisms.

The person also told investigators they met Quintero at a motel in the southern area of San Antonio, where Quintero allegedly attempted to give stolen memorabilia, and that when asked about involvement in the North Side burglaries, Quintero “reportedly laughed,” according to the affidavit. The person also told investigators they advised Quintero to leave and stay off the streets because of a $25,000 reward, the affidavit states.

Investigators said the person reported seeing large sums of money and being told by Quintero that the cash was concealed in trash cans at his residence, and that the money was primarily $20 bills. The person also reported that Quintero bought a black 2019 Audi SUV for $20,000 in cash and said they personally viewed the order purchase, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit says the person identified Quintero’s girlfriend as a person who lived at the Weizmann address, and investigators confirmed that information. It also states that his girlfriend was involved in a crash while driving the Audi.

Investigators located a crash report involving a black 2019 Audi Q7. The affidavit says body camera footage confirmed his girlfriend was the driver and documented contact with Quintero during the incident. The crash occurred at the intersection of Weizmann and West Avenue, near that previous address, according to the affidavit.

In the criminal mischief case, the affidavit states video surveillance captured Quintero throwing multiple rocks at a back patio window, damaging back windows. Investigators said the victim did not consent to any damage and provided an estimate placing the total aggregated damage at about $2,500.

The affidavit says investigators sought a warrant for Quintero’s arrest on a charge of criminal mischief between $2,500 and $30,000. Quintero has since been released from custody and remains on house arrest.
