EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A man from Mexico with alleged ties to the smuggling of two children was apprehended this week after he allegedly tried to cross into El Paso using a fake passport.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Western District of Texas, Marco Antonio Dominguez-Barranco aka Isaias Salvador Gonzalez Jr., allegedly tried to cross from Ciudad Juarez to the U.S. through the Downtown El Paso border bridge using a U.S. passport that had his photo but another person’s name and date of birth.

The criminal complaint affidavit alleges that Dominguez-Barranco told Customs and Border Protection officers he was looking for his godchildren, causing them to suspect he may have been associated with a recent smuggling event involving two kids.
According to the allegations in the affidavit, Dominguez-Barranco admitted that he had participated in the smuggling event, crossed back into Mexico, and was returning to the U.S. to take the smuggled children to Denver, Colorado.
Dominguez-Barranco is facing human smuggling charges.
