An entire suburban Houston community is mourning Sunday evening after news broke earlier in the day that two prominent individuals in the East Bernard Independent School District died over the weekend.
Jeremy Jenkins, the athletic director of East Bernard ISD and head football coach of East Bernard High School, and his wife Brandy Jenkins, a teacher at East Bernard Junior High School, were killed in a car accident Saturday.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety via KHOU, the Jenkins’ 2025 Tesla Model Y overturned while attempting to meet a curve on northbound Highway 60 near County Road 210 at around 10:07 p.m. Saturday. Both Jeremy—the driver of the vehicle—and Brandy Jenkins were pronounced dead at the scene.
“Jeremy and Brandy were much more than their titles or the roles they held within our schools,” read a statement released Sunday by East Bernard ISD. “They were colleagues, educators, mentors, friends, and family.”
The statement noted that East Bernard ISD students and staff will have the option to meet with counselors and support service staff.
“We encourage anyone who is struggling to reach out and allow others to walk alongside you during this difficult time,” continued the statement. “We will continue to communicate information about available support as we move through the coming days.”
The school district’s booster club posted Sunday afternoon on Facebook that “coaches are supposed to live forever,” and that its “Brahma family is trying to comprehend the incomprehensible.”
East Bernard is about 50 miles southwest of Houston.
