Fort Worth man charged with animal cruelty after shooting dog that killed his chickens, police say

A Fort Worth man was charged with animal cruelty Sunday after allegedly shooting his neighbor’s dog, officials say. 

Officers responded to a shooting call around 10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16, to reports of a person with a weapon in the 4700 block of Baytree Drive, according to a press release from the Fort Worth Police Department. When officers arrived on the scene, they found that a man pulled a gun on his neighbor and shot his neighbor’s dog, officials said. 

The dog died from its injuries, the release states. 

The male suspect was not home when officers arrived, but when contacted by phone, he told police that the dog killed two of his chickens, police said. When the suspect saw the dog in his yard, he injured the dog and “tossed” it back into his neighbor’s yard, according to the release. 

Animal control responded to the scene and took possession of the dog and chickens, police said. 

The suspect has been charged with terroristic threat and cruelty to a non-livestock animal, officials said. The incident remains under investigation.
