The body of a 36-year-old man was found Sunday morning after an overnight search at Joe Pool Lake near Grand Prairie.
Grand Prairie Fire Department officials responded to a possible drowning call about 5:15 p.m. Saturday after a witness reported a man not resurfacing after he was seen swimming near a boat, according to a Sunday post on Facebook. Officials said the man wasn’t wearing a life jacket.
Grand Prairie’s public safety dive team searched for the man until nightfall Saturday and resumed operations Sunday morning
According to the statement, this marks the third drowning at the lake this summer.
“As the lake season continues, GPFD strongly encourages the public to wear a life vest or an appropriate personal flotation device while near or in the water,” the statement said.
Several other drownings have been reported across the metroplex this summer.
Officials recovered the body of Freddy Ferrer Bracamonte, 62, from Benbrook Lake in Tarrant County a day after he was last seen in a designated swimming area on July 12, according to a previous statement from the Texas Parks & Wildlife department.
A 15-year-old died on June 27 after entering Lake Jacksonville in East Texas to help a 5-year-old whose inflatable device had drifted into deeper water, according to the Jacksonville Police Department. Jacksonville is about 120 miles southeast of Dallas.
The teen, who hasn’t been publicly identified, called out for help before disappearing beneath the water, police said.
