Texas A&M move-in day draws thousands of students

  • August 19, 2026

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – The Texas A&M Residence Life team rolled out the welcome mat for thousands of students and families for the first day of move-in week.

On Tuesday, around 4,000 students moved into their dorms ahead of the fall semester. Families spent the day hauling boxes and rolling in carts to get students settled into their homes for the next year.

Texas A&M Residence Life Manager Dr. Gennie Lynn said the res life team looks forward to welcoming students back, and this year is special because of A&M’s 150th celebration.

“We really enjoy move-in day, and it’s a lot of fun, especially this year, because we’re trying to bring back the move-in volunteers and make it a more hospitable, welcoming environment to help bring in the 150th birthday of Texas A&M as well,” Lynn explained.

Texas A&M used to bring 10,000 students in for a single move-in day. Now, the university has an appointment system in place to help move-in run smoothly.

“One of the things that has stuck with us from COVID was these appointments and the staggering of things, and so we spread it out, so it’s a little less chaotic, which is a little bit nice for everybody. I think the families really enjoy having the stagger and they’re not standing outside,” Lynn said.

New students are looking forward to the upcoming school year. Incoming freshman Ana Tarango said her move went smoothly with help from residence life staff.

“It’s been great, you know, kind of tough because we had to go upstairs, but you know, that’s just how it is, but they were so helpful, the staff here and the assistants,” Tarango remarked.

Drivers in College Station should expect heavier traffic this week, especially near campus. Texas A&M student move-ins will continue daily from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. until Aug. 22.
