Panther City BBQ, one of Fort Worth’s most popular barbecue restaurants, is expanding.
Co-owner and Pitmaster Chris Magallanes confirmed the expansion with WFAA via email. The new location will be in the former home of La Playa Maya, a 1913 building located at 1540 N. Main St. The restaurant’s first location will remain open in the Southside, at 201 E. Hattie St., according to reporting from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Panther City BBQ is one of the few Fort Worth restaurants on the Michelin Guide, one of the most respected guides in the world, which was first published by Michelin in the 1900s. Panther City BBQ smokes a wide variety of meats and offers barbecue with a Mexican twist, with items like brisket elote cup or the flacodilla, which is chopped brisket in a griddled tortilla filled with cheese, cilantro and onion.
The restaurant’s new location is just a couple of blocks from the Stockyards and is near good Tex-Mex company, with restaurants like Joe T Garcia’s located just down the road. The fast-developing area of Fort Worth’s Northside could also soon be home to two new large luxury hotels.
The building on N Main Street was built as a city police substation, then became government offices and a public library branch before being purchased by the North Side Lions Club in 1940, according to the Star-Telegram.
Most recently, it was a La Playa Maya, which closed this summer but maintains several locations in North Texas.
