ABC13’s weekend morning anchor Charly Edsitty is departing from the station next month after eight years.
Edsitty started at KTRK in 2018 as a multimedia journalist before become a weekend morning anchor in 2023. News of her planned departure was first reported by media blogger Mike McGuff. The station confirmed to the Houston Chronicle that Edsitty’s last day will be Sept. 24.
The Baylor graduate has covered many major news events in Houston for KTRK, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 freeze and Hurricane Beryl in 2024.
“I will miss so much about Houston, and that includes our amazing viewers as well as my dear news family,” Edsitty posted on Instagram Tuesday morning. “I will miss them the most.”
Before coming to Houston, Edsitty was a planning producer and on-air reporter in her home state of Arizona.
“This was a very difficult decision, and I’ve been a ball of emotions recently because I have had SO MUCH FUN living and reporting in Southeast Texas,” Edsitty wrote in her post. “But it’s time for me to get closer to home and to my family.”
Edsitty has not announced her next move. The Chronicle reached out to Edsitty for more information.
