If you see lines this Friday in McKinney, they may be for hot bagels.

The viral PopUp Bagels have arrived in the North Texas suburbs after opening locations in Inwood Village and East Dallas. The McKinney shop is open Wednesday and Thursday while bagels last, before a grand opening on Friday.

The celebrity-backed company has been valued at $300 million and is growing fast. It’s known for its piping hot bagels, which are meant for guests to “grip, rip and dip.” Options are plain, poppy seed, salt, sesame and everything.

Schmears are available in plain, scallion, salted butter and brown sugar cinnamon butter, which is more popular in Texas locations than ones in the rest of the country, said Don Meij, the brand’s Texas franchise partner. There are also weekly special schmears.

“We love to bring a lot of energy in our stores and into our communities,” Meij said. “What we promise our customers is really high-quality, hot, fresh bagels that come in small batches straight out of the oven.”

A DJ will be at the grand opening on Friday, when a new Banana Cloud schmear created with Texas coffee shop La La Land will launch across PopUp shops in Texas, Meij said.

There will also be limited giveaways of merchandise and products from Natalie’s Orchid Island Juice Company, Bloom Nutrition and La Colombe Coffee Roasters, Meij said.

“We’re excited to be coming to McKinney,” Meij said. “We love the community there.”

PopUp Bagels was founded in Connecticut in 2020 and opened its first Texas shop in April on Lovers Lane, followed by its Henderson Avenue location in June.

The brand plans to open more locations in Texas, Meij said. It has over 45 stores nationally and the only other shop currently open in Texas is in Houston, according to its website.

PopUp Bagels McKinney is at 8565 W. University Drive, McKinney.
