Erika Reeves was arrested in July and charged with theft of property between $2,500 and $30,000 and forgery of a financial instrument, according to KRIS 6. Reeves was president of the Schallert Elementary School Parent Teacher Association (PTA), located in the Alice Independent School District. 

Erika’s husband, Cody Reeves, currently sits on the Alice ISD board—a position he was elected to in June 2025. On Tuesday, Cody posted publicly to Facebook that he has not changed his plans to remain on the board. 

“I have no intention of throwing in the towel,” Cody wrote. “I’m still here, and I’m looking forward to what’s going to be a great school year and another great season of Kickin’ Chicken soccer.” 

The Alice ISD board member acknowledged that he had been “MIA” recently, adding that he had chosen to handle his personal life privately with his family. He said while criticism comes with serving in public office, other people’s opinions and statements do not define his character. 

“When I sit in that seat as a trustee, my priority is our students and our district,” Cody wrote. “When I’m home, my priority is my family. That hasn’t changed.” 

The statement comes just a few weeks after his wife’s arrest.

Erika was taken into custody on July 27 from her home, according to the Alice Echo News Journal. Reeves allegedly forged the prior PTA president’s signature on checks amounting to a total just under $30,000. 

Alice Police Chief Eden Garcia told KRIS 6 Erika allegedly acted alone and that her husband was not involved. Garcia has urged anyone who participated in the PTA fundraisers managed by Erika to contact the Alice Police Department.

In June, the Alice Police Department opened an investigation into the Schallert PTA. At the time, Alice ISD said the investigation was related to a mishandling of funds by the PTA president.

“The campus was first notified of a potential issue by the financial institution where the PTA maintains its accounts,” Alice ISD wrote in a prior news release. “Upon receiving that information, the District immediately reported the matter to the Alice Police Department and Alice ISD is cooperating with the investigation.”

Alice ISD said the PTA operates independently from the district, with its own leadership, governing documents, organizational structure, bank accounts and financial records.

Police told the Alice Echo News Journal the investigation was ongoing following Erika’s arrest in late July.
