PLANO, Texas — Plano-based Pizza Hut is making a major play to attract customers just in time for football season. The company is dropping “Pizza” from its name to become simply “HUT.”

To kick off the season, the company is temporarily covering the word “Pizza” on its signs and replacing it with a large red football leaving only “Hut” displayed. The restaurant chain points out that “Hut” is “the word that’s called every snap for generations,” and now “it’s calling your next order.”

The brand updated its social media accounts during the preseason to focus on “Hut” to get fans excited for pizza and football.

The temporary name change runs from Aug. 19 through Aug. 31, according to Pizza Hut—or, for now, Hut.

The seasonal name change comes alongside major corporate and menu developments for the pizza chain. Parent company Yum! Brands recently announced it entered into agreements to sell Pizza Hut for $2.7 billion to private equity firm LongRange Capital.

Additionally, Pizza Hut recently announced it was bringing back its retro look at “Classic” locations. The chain also recently introduced a new throwback value menu to celebrate its most iconic menu items, featuring items starting at $3.
