COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Longtime Texas A&M football coach R.C. Slocum will be honored with a statue ahead of the 2026 football season.
The sculptor, Steven Whyte, confirmed the statue and unveiling ceremony on social media.
Slocum served as head coach of the Aggies from 1989 to 2002. His coaching tenure at Texas A&M dates back to 1972, when he was an offensive assistant, and two stints as the defensive coordinator before being named the head coach.
His 172 wins ranks first in the program’s history, a record that includes three Southwest Conference championships and a Big 12 title.
He also served as interim Athletic Director in 2019 and 2024.
The statue will be located outside Entry 5 on the north end of Kyle Field beside the All-American towers.
The ceremony will take place on Friday, Sept. 4 at 2 p.m.
