SAN ANTONIO – Police are investigating after a man was found dead in the attic of an abandoned Econo Lodge on the Northeast Side.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, a person staying at the abandoned Econo Lodge at 9503 N Interstate 35 near the Loop 410 interchange discovered the body and went to workers at a nearby business for help because the person did not have a phone. The workers contacted authorities.
Officers responding to the property found a deceased man in the attic. The body was heavily decomposed and positioned in an area that authorities could not immediately access safely.
An initial examination did not reveal any obvious signs of foul play.
Police said several possibilities could be considered, including a heat-related death, overdose, or suicide, but stressed that no cause had been confirmed.
The medical examiner’s office initially attempted to remove the body but was unable to safely do so because of its location. Authorities were waiting for the fire department to assist with the recovery.
