Lowe’s is opening its first store in Converse next year.
The North Carolina-based home improvement company plans to build an estimated $10.5 million location at the corner of East Loop 1604 North and Coppergate near Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Construction on the 107,136-square-foot store is expected to begin in January and be completed by October next year.
Details in state filings are preliminary and subject to change without notice.
Lowe’s new site will be located 2.5 miles up the road from H-E-B’s upcoming store at the intersection of Interstate 10 and Loop 1604 in Schertz. The grocer plans to open its 125,000-square-foot location later this year.
In its second-quarter earnings report, Lowe’s said sales increased 8.3% to $26 billion from $24 billion a year earlier. The company attributed the growth to online sales, up 15.7%, and strong performance from professional customers and home services, partially offset by continued weakness in DIY spending. Net earnings were essentially flat at $2.4 billion.
“Customers continue to tell us that they’re being cautious about their spending and prioritizing where and when they invest in their homes,” Lowe’s Chairman and CEO Marvin Ellison said during Wednesday’s call. “As a result, discretionary DIY demand remains under pressure.”
After the Supreme Court ruled President Donald Trump’s 2025 import tariffs unconstitutional in February, Lowe’s said it used its $80 million in tariff refunds to protect its profit margins and cover rising operational costs.
Other retailers, including Walmart and its rival Home Depot, have committed their refunds to lower prices for customers or cover the costs of products already sold.
“Despite the heightened competitive landscape as competitors used tariff refunds to lower prices later in the quarter, we are encouraged by the continued momentum in our Total Home strategy,” Ellison said.
