Jet suit racing company partners with Texas ranch to bring races to U.S.

KEMPNER, Texas (KWTX) – A U.K.-based company called Gravity Industries is working with Robison Ranch to bring Jet Suit racing to the United States.

Robison Ranch is best known as the home of Camp Cowboy, but it also works with companies from around the world that are developing new technologies and services.

Plans to bring Jet Suit racing to the U.S. are still in the planning phase. No dates or locations have been set.

Gravity Industries has spent the past decade developing its Jet Suit technology.

“So, a Jet Suit is actually a small collection of tiny little jet engines. Similar to what you get on a jet fighter or an airliner but much smaller. We worked out about 9 years ago, where to affix them to the human body to allow flight to feel entirely free like you’re a super hero,” said Richard Browning, founder of Gravity Industries and a Jet Suit pilot.

Gravity’s suits have been used for military and rescue operations. The technology has also moved into racing.

“This is where you get a whole bunch of pilots, all competing over water, chasing around each other. We did one in 18 months or so ago in Dubai. Which, was a huge success,” Browning said.

Browning, a former British Royal Marine, is at Robison Ranch showing off the suit and discussing how the companies can work together to bring races to the U.S.

Scott Robison, owner of Robison Ranch and founder of Camp Cowboy, said he supports the idea.

“I’m super excited about bringing the race league to the United States here and racing that. It’s an incredible marketing tool but you’re going to get crowds out here that want to see it. It’s kind of like NASCAR but the NASCAR of race suits,” Robison said.

Browning said the Jet Suit was once an idea confined to comic books and movies.

“I think one of the most powerful things that we’ve done with Gravity is actually to create a visual manifestation. Something that is visual and tangible, that’s not AI, that demonstrates if you have a dream and you’re not afraid to survivably fail and explore your way into an unknown territory and eventually end up with something that’s properly superhero and like, shouldn’t work,” Browning said.

Gravity’s Jet Suit technology is also being used for military and rescue operations. The company says its next step is bringing Jet Suit racing to the United States.
