SAN ANTONIO – A man has been arrested on a capital murder charge months after 26-year-old Jon Kross Perez was attacked, robbed and shot multiple times outside an East Side after-hours business.
Santos Alvarez, 22, was arrested in connection with Perez’s February 8 death.

According to an arrest affidavit, Perez had been at an after-hours business near Rigsby Ave ad Elgin Ave with several friends before the shooting. The group was preparing to leave when several men approached Perez and began attacking him.
Witnesses described seeing Perez punched and kicked by multiple people. The attack then turned into a robbery, with a gun pulled on another person who tried to intervene.
Perez had been wearing several necklaces that night. One broken necklace was later found at the scene, while others were missing. The medical examiner also found abrasions around his neck consistent with necklaces being pulled from him.
The warrant names Alvarez and two other people accused of taking part in the robbery. Alvarez is accused of shooting Perez multiple times during the attack.
Witness statements, surveillance video, social media records and cellphone data were used to piece together what happened that morning.
One witness identified Alvarez, also known as “Motion,” as being involved in the attack. Another said Alvarez and two other men left the business, went to his home and later returned.
That witness said he heard gunshots after the men returned to the business and alleged Alvarez later bragged about the shooting.
Cellphone records also placed Alvarez’s phone near the Rigsby Avenue location from around 4:45 a.m. through the time Perez was shot shortly before 7 a.m.
Perez was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alvarez is charged with capital murder.
