SOCORRO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A Taiwanese company that builds infrastructure for AI data centers is investing over $200 million in the City of Socorro but has agreed to only fill 100 jobs of the 2,000 new positions with Socorro residents.

On Friday, the City of Socorro announced the expansion of Wiwynn Technology Corporation, which has decided to invest more than $275 million in the City, bringing 2,000 jobs to the manufacturing campus at the Socorro Logistics Centre Park in a span of four years.

However, as part of the agreement, Socorro said Wiwynn agreed to fill only five percent of those jobs, or 100 positions, with Socorro residents, with an average pay of about $19 an hour plus benefits.

This comes as construction for AI data centers has ramped up in the U.S.

Socorro announced that Wiwynn will be hiring production and warehouse personnel as it ramps up.

This was made possible after Socorro approved a $1.8 million Chapter 380 agreement to support the investment.

The approved City of Socorro incentive package includes:

Allows personal property tax rebate to be paid over 10 years for a maximum tax rebate of $1,836,462.54.Construction permit waiver worth up to $200,000.

The new Wiwynn property in Socorro will encompass two industrial buildings totaling over 866K square feet and will serve to meet the demand from U.S. customers and the distribution of IT cloud products and components.

Having recently established in Socorro in 2025, Wiwynn will have a campus measuring over 1.6 million square feet and a combined workforce of 2,500 employees.

“Socorro made a promise, and today Wiwynn is answering with one of the largest votes of confidence in our city’s history,” said Rudy Cruz Jr., Mayor of Socorro.
