A popular Austin smoothie shop is saying goodbye to one of its oldest locations. After a decade-long run, this weekend will mark the last for Blenders and Bowls‘ Eastside shop at 1625 E. Sixth St. The duo behind the brand announced the closure on social media, revealing that the last day of service will be on Sunday.
“10 incredible years at our Eastside location, and every bit of it because of you. Thank you for the early morning smoothie runs, the post-workout bowls, the regulars who became friends, and the neighborhood love that kept us going. You made this so much more than a shop,” Blenders and Bowls’ Thursday night post read.
The owners said they made the “difficult decision” not to renew the lease to focus their efforts on new endeavors. They went on to say that the brand isn’t going anywhere, confirming that Blenders and Bowls’ Westlake and Lamar locations at 3736 Bee Cave Rd. and 4200 N Lamar Blvd., respectively, will remain open.
The fruit-focused brand actually got its start as a food truck in 2010 when best friends Kara Jordan and Erin Thompson moved to Austin from Hawaii and had a “mean craving for an açaí bowl,” according to Blenders and Bowls’ website.
Within months, they launched what they called a healthy mobile food truck that eventually expanded to multiple brick-and-mortar shops with acai bowls along with smoothies, protein shakes, toasts, yogurts and more.
The Eastside shop was Blenders and Bowls’ third location when it opened in 2016, as Community Impact Austin previously reported.
“We’re closing our doors and we’re deeply grateful for your support. It’s been an honor to be part of your story,” the owners’ closing graphic reads.
