The popular Midwest emo band announced the cancellation of three Texas shows scheduled for this fall, including one in Dallas, on social media Friday.
DALLAS — Texas emo fans will have to wait a little longer for another chance to see a long-time favorite band.
American Football has canceled all three of its upcoming Texas shows scheduled for this September. The popular Midwest emo band announced the bad news Friday on Instagram.
“Texas 💔 We are very sorry to announce that we won’t be able to make it to play our 3 Texas shows next month,” the band said in a statement, without specifying a reason for the cancellations.

The shows were part of the band’s fall tour announced back in June, which was set to feature songs from their latest self-titled album, fourth in all, which released May 1. The canceled dates include stops at White Oak Music Hall in Houston on September 8, Longhorn Ballroom in Dallas on September 9, and Stubb’s BarBQ in Austin on September 10.
American Football last played the state in 2025 with a two-night stop at the Granada Theatre in Dallas celebrating the 25th anniversary of their debut album.
The band says it hopes to reschedule and return to Texas in 2027. Refunds will be issued in the meantime.
“We hope to be able to find new dates and come back in 2027. Looking forward to seeing you all soon ❤️”
Made up initially of members Mike Kinsella, Steve Holmes and Steve Lamos, American Football formed in Urbana, Ill. and debuted their first album in 1999 before disbanding as a group. The trio reunited 15 years later, adding Nate Kinsella, and released a second self-titled album in 2016, followed by a third in 2019.
