Hill College, a community college in Hillsboro that serves multiple counties in Central Texas, including much of the Greater Waco area, is in the midst of one of its first major capital projects in quite some time. In April, the school broke ground on the $4.2 million Hill College Soccer Complex. On Wednesday, the school filed a second project with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation for a new $3.7 million addition to the soccer complex, construction of which is underway.
Details are sparse in the filing, which notes that the new work will encompass approximately 4,515 square feet and pushes out a completion date from this summer to the end of 2026.
This project will feature a 120-yard synthetic turf field surrounded by a 20-foot synthetic perimeter. Additional amenities will include LED field lighting, a scoreboard and a two-story press box. On either side of the press box will be covered team benches, along with a 20-yard covered bench area on the east sideline. The team benches will also include space for equipment storage.
“We are beyond elated to be able to serve our students by constructing a long-overdue on-campus soccer stadium at our Hill County Campus. We have every intention of building the best community college soccer facility in Texas, and we are proud to be doing so without incurring any debt,” Hill College President Thomas Mills said in April.
Mills shared that he hopes the city of Hillsboro and Hill County will also benefit from the use of the facilities.
On the west side of the field, a split pavilion and grandstand will be connected by a breezeway that includes locker rooms for both home and visiting teams, coaches’ offices, a VIP suite, and a concessions area. The grandstand will offer four to five rows of covered chairback seating. The entire facility will be surrounded by a black chain-link fence, and lawn seating will be available at the pavilion’s north and south ends.
The new field will be located behind the baseball field and will be integrated with existing facilities and walking trails. A landscaped entrance featuring native plants will welcome visitors.

The men’s soccer team shone brightest last season, going 9-5-2 on the year and earning a trip to the regional final. Both the men’s and women’s teams are expected to compete at a high level going into next season.
