Martin, who runs the popular Astros Fans UK account on X, shared the news Saturday morning, telling followers he suffered a “health issue/incident” following Friday night’s game.
“I wish this message was a joke but unfortunately I suffered a health issue/incident after the Astros game last night,” Martin wrote. “I’m glad to say I’m in very good hands in Houston right now.”
Martin did not disclose the nature of the medical issue but initially said it was looking “extremely unlikely” that he would be able to attend the Astros’ next game.
Hours later, though, he shared a considerably more encouraging update.
“Thank you everyone for the best wishes, means an immense amount to me,” Martin wrote. “I still need to speak to one of the people here, but the news looks much better.”
Martin described the previous 12 hours as “extremely scary” and thanked the medical staff at HCA Houston Healthcare Medical Center for treating him.
The health scare comes during another Houston visit for a fan whose relationship with the Astros started nearly 5,000 miles away.
Chron profiled Martin in 2024 after he became a familiar name among Astros fans despite living in London. Martin first started following the team as a 14-year-old in 1999 after seeing baseball highlights on British television and looking for an MLB team that hadn’t yet won a championship.
He eventually created Astros Fans UK in 2017 and built a following by live-tweeting games despite the six-hour time difference between Houston and London. When Chron spoke with him in 2024, Martin said he watched and live-tweeted roughly 90 to 95 percent of Astros games while also working a regular job and raising his son.
Martin finally made his first trip to Houston in 2023 after more than two decades of following the Astros from overseas. During that visit, he met Astros players including Jose Altuve and Framber Valdez and threw out a first pitch at a Sugar Land Space Cowboys game.
“I absolutely fell in love with the place,” Martin told Chron at the time.
For now, Martin hasn’t provided further details about what caused Saturday’s medical emergency. His latest update, however, was considerably more optimistic than the first.
“The news looks much better,” he wrote.
