ARLINGTON – The latest Ranger on injury watch: Jake Burger.
The first baseman was hit on the left wrist by a 95-mph sinker from Los Angeles’ Ryan Johnson in the third inning. It caught him flush and sent him to the ground in significant pain, but Burger got up, went to first, and remained in the game for an inning. But after the fourth inning, he departed and was replaced by Ezequiel Duran, who moved from third. It triggered a wholesale change around the infield, with Cody Freeman going from second to third and Nicky Lopez entering at second base.
No immediate medical report was available on Burger’s condition.
While Burger’s performance has been inconsistent this year, he’s one of the few Rangers who has been available every day. Saturday was his 123rd game of the season, second by a game to outfielder Brandon Nimmo. Burger leads the Rangers in RBIs with 73.
