COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Texas A&M soccer beat Sam Houston 5-0 in its home opener on Saturday night. The match marked the first time since 1993 the Aggies have played a regular season home match at Ellis Field under a new head coach.

Why did A&M win? In the 18th minute, Hattie Patterson sent the ball high to the net. Ireland Churchill headed it in for a goal, giving the Aggies a 1-0 lead.
The score held until the 39th minute, when Churchill assisted Trinity Buchanan for A&M’s second goal. Churchill and Buchanan would repeat their success in the second half.
Churchill’s second goal coming 49th minute and Buchanan’s in the 54th minute. Ciara Jade Mitchell delivered the final blow in the 80th minute to secure the Aggie’s victory.
What’s next? The Aggies return home Aug. 27 to play Air Force at 7 p.m.
