Northwest Houston- A child is dead after a crash involving a suspected drunk driver and a Harris County Sheriff’s Office patrol car early Sunday morning, according to the sheriff’s office. A child passenger younger than 12-years-old was ejected from the vehicle.
The sheriff’s office said a deputy was driving southbound on T.C. Jester in a marked patrol car when a pickup truck heading northbound attempted to turn at Tomlinson Trail Drive. Officials say the two vehicles collided and the pickup truck was spun around and a child passenger younger than 12-years-old was ejected from the vehicle. Investigators said the child was not wearing a seat belt.
The deputy involved in the crash reportedly provided CPR to the child until EMS arrived and the child was rushed to a hospital where the child later died.
Investigators said the driver of the pickup truck, a man in his 50s or 60s, showed signs of intoxication. HCSO said it was seeking a warrant for a blood sample, and the driver could face a charge of intoxication manslaughter.
