The Bulldogs are hoping some stability in year two under Samuel Rodriguez will help them navigate a move down to Class 2A.
BANQUETE, Texas — The Banquete Bulldogs are coming off a 2-8 season, which given the tremendous offseason turmoil, it’s impressive that they got the wins that they did.
The Bulldogs went through three different head coaches in a span of three months directly leading up to the season with Samuel Rodriguez being hired at the last minute. Rodriguez says the stability in year two has him optimistic that Banquete can navigate a move down to Class 2A.
“It’s been the best part of going into this season and the worst part of starting that last season,” Rodriguez. “I think they’ll execute better. They’ve bought into what we’re doing and and we know all the kids and the kids know us at this point.”
The Bulldogs open the season on the road against former district foe Odem next Friday night. Banquete is in a 2A Division I district with local teams Refugio, Freer, Taft, Skidmore-Tynan and Premont in addition to Dilley and Monte Alto.
