Osler “Ozzie” M. Houston Sr., age 83, of Rock Island, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island. Ozzie was born on July 24, 1942, in Louisville, Mississippi, to Mann and Callie (Anderson) Houston. He married Bernidine Rhone on May 5, 1973, in Davenport, Iowa.  
 
Ozzie was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served his country with honor. As a member of the local VFW, Ozzie’s commitment to service extended beyond his military involvement and into his everyday life, inspiring those around him. He was known for his passion for working on cars, and he relished every opportunity to share his knowledge with others. Ozzie was also a devoted fan of the Chicago Bears and cherished watching sports, finding joy in sharing these moments with family and friends. 
 
Above all, Ozzie valued the time spent with his loved ones. He leaves behind his wife, Bernidine; his children, Osler (Leslie) Houston Jr., Sharrondia Houston, Alicia Houston, Melissa Houston, Aaliyah Houston, and Kermit (Christa) McDuffie; and a legacy of love in the form of his grandchildren, Isaiah, Kameron, Quincy, Alyvia, Chelsea, Stanley, Cornelius, Lexus, Mercedes, Dianthia, Vincent, Jeremy, Kendall, Cameron as well as many more cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will remember him fondly. 
 
Ozzie was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Elgin Houston and Nora Lee Clay; and his beloved granddaughter, Diana Johnson. 
 
Funeral services to celebrate Ozzie’s life will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 12:00 pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, IL. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home prior to services from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm to visit with the family. Burial will be held at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made in care of the family. 
 
Ozzie will be dearly missed and forever remembered for his loving spirit, his passion for life, and the countless ways he touched those fortunate enough to know him.
