The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office deputy who died due to an illness is remembered for making a lasting difference in the lives of those around him.
Deputy John A. Rodriguez served Tarrant County for about 15 years, “continuing a lifetime of service defined by integrity, compassion, and quiet leadership,” the Tarrant County Sheriff’s office said in a social media post.
Rodriguez joined the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office in 2012 after his retirement from the United States Navy. He began his career as a Detention Officer, later graduated to become a Deputy Sheriff assigned to the Patrol division.
Rodriguez then transferred to the Judicial Division where he served the 297th District Court, according to the sheriff’s office.
“Within the 297th, he was affectionately known as “Papa” — a name given to him by his team for his warm nature and unwavering kindness,” the post read. “His ability to make others feel supported and valued was one of his greatest gifts. His warmth and generous heart was felt by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.”
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the many coworkers who served alongside him,” according to the post. “Deputy Rodriguez will be deeply missed, and his legacy of service, compassion, and camaraderie will continue to guide and inspire us.”
Dedicated his life to serving and protecting the community
Rodriguez was more than a deputy, he was a friend, co-worker, husband and a father who dedicated his life to serving others and protecting his community, a GoFundMe post read.
Community members friends, and fellow law-enforcement officers are asked to come together to support his wife Shelly and family as they face unimaginable loss of their loved one, the post reads.
“John spent his life standing up for others. Now it is our turn to stand behind Shelly and his family,” the post read.
