HOUSTON — Scoring four goals for the second-straight game, the University of Houston Soccer team defeated Tarleton State, 4-1, on Sunday at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
Sophomore Bailey Cate opened the scoring in the 18th minute when she scored a goal in her second-straight game, and the Cougars (2-0-1) took a 1-0 lead into the half.
Junior Skylar Miller doubled the lead in the 51st minute with a header from juniors Jada Arthurs and Blake Hodgson.
Freshman Elle Sloan notched her first-career goal as junior Laney Gonzales served a cross into the box for Sloan to head into the net in the 61st minute.
After a missed handball was reviewed and overturned, senior Adelhia Ghonda stepped to the spot and sank the penalty kick in the 68th minute to put the Cougars up 4-0.
Tarleton State (0-1-2) got on the board in the 87th minute when Peyton Bryant found Naomi Langille in space for the finish.
UP NEXT
Houston heads on the road for a midweek match up with Abilene Christian at 7 p.m. Thursday from Elmer Gray Stadium.
The Cougars then return home to host #3 Vanderbilt at noon Sunday at the Carl Lewis International Complex. Sunday’s match up with Vanderbilt is the highest ranked opponent Houston has ever hosted.
