SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police are searching for a suspect accused of posing as a credit union employee and stealing money from a 75-year-old woman while she was recovering from surgery at a local hospital.
The incident happened June 28 at North Central Baptist Hospital on Madison Oak Drive.
Police said the woman had recently undergone surgery and was heavily medicated when she received a phone call from someone claiming to be an employee with Security Service Federal Credit Union (SSFCU).
The caller allegedly told her that her debit card had been compromised. Investigators said the suspect later went to the hospital and provided the victim with a temporary debit card.
During the encounter, the suspect allegedly obtained the woman’s debit card and her personal identification number.
The victim’s card was later used at nearby ATMs and retail stores, police said.
