K-9 Sharik sniffs out two suitcases full of marijuana

SCHERTZ, Texas – A routine traffic stop for defective equipment Friday led to the seizure of approximately 61 pounds of marijuana.

Officer DeMendonca with the Schertz K-9 unit initiated the stop in the 18500 block of Interstate 35 Southbound after noticing the vehicle violation. K-9 Sharik was deployed to sniff around the vehicle and signaled officers to the presence of illegal substances.

A subsequent search based on probable cause uncovered two suitcases filled with marijuana inside the vehicle. The seized contraband weighed approximately 61 pounds in total.

Police have not yet released the identity of the driver or detailed any pending charges related to the traffic stop and drug discovery.
