The Plano City Council on Monday is set to discuss and possibly vote on a proposal to add a K9 program to the Police Department.

The city council meets at 6 p.m. at Plano City Hall at 17 East Main.

The police department is proposing to purchase a multi-use dog that could sniff out drugs, be used in missing persons cases, and to apprehend suspects. The department has said that the initial $25,000 or so cost would be covered by grants and donations.

The council will also discuss and vote on some wastewater department purchases, the purchase of a new police vehicle and payment of bills of about $260,000.

Also on the agenda is the hiring of a new police officer, Jesse Nelson.
