SAN ANTONIO – Police are investigating after a group of masked suspects opened fire on a home after two students got into a physical altercation at a nearby school.
Officers were dispatched at about 11:45 a.m. on Monday to the 100 block of Drew Avenue for a shooting in progress. Police said they met with the victim, a 39-year-old woman, after arriving at the scene.
According to preliminary information provided to officers, the victim said her nephew had gotten into a physical altercation at school. Police said that afterward, a 17-year-old male suspect sent a video to the complainant threatening to “shoot up” their residence.
Police said the suspects then pulled up to the home wearing masks and began shooting at the residence. The victim told officers she heard multiple gunshots. Police said no one was hit.
The shooting resulted in ‘secured protocol’ at Highlands High School, just 13 minutes away from the scene of the shooting. It remains unclear if the teens involved are students of the school.
In a statement, the district emphasized that the school was not in a lockdown. “As a precaution, the school implemented its secure protocol,” the statement said.
The district said a secure protocol is “a procedure in which the perimeter of the school is secured by personnel, and this includes bringing students who may be outside into the building.”
“All students and staff remain safely inside, operating in a normal manner,” the district said, adding that “no individuals are allowed to enter the building unless designated by the principal.”
The suspects have yet to be located. The incident remains under investigation. No injuries have been reported.
