It’s been so hot in North Texas this summer that even the low temperatures are flirting with breaking records.
At 4:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, the National Weather Service Fort Worth’s climate station at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport had yet to capture a temperature under 90 degrees. At the time, the NWS wrote on X that it may be one of the warmest lows ever recorded, since the all-time warmest low temperature is 86 degrees.
However, NWS meteorologist David Bonnette told the Star-Telegram that temperatures eventually dropped to 86 degrees as the morning progressed.
This is now the sixth time in history that North Texas has reached that number.

As of Sunday, Aug. 23, North Texas has recorded 29 days at or above 100 degrees.
This is generally the rule of thumb for this time of year, and there hasn’t been anything particularly abnormal about this summer, Bonnette said. Furthermore, North Texas has a buildup of high pressure that hasn’t let up yet.
As far as when the region will see some relief, Bonnette said temperatures will start to head downward as September nears. The NWS’ normal high for September is 88.6 degrees, compared to August’s 95.8 degrees.
