A Tarrant County jury found a man guilty of murder in the June 2025 killing of a 24-year-old man outside a residence in west Fort Worth, according to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office.
Jonathan Martinez Aranda, 25, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for shooting Mathew Fonseca multiple times in a driveway in the 3000 block of Conejos Drive, the DA’s office said in a news release.
Fonseca was out with his girlfriend, and Aranda, jealous of the relationship, confronted the victim and fatally shot him, according to the DA’s office.
June 2025 killing
Fort Worth police officers responded to the shooting on June 15 at about 3:30 a.m., where they found Fonseca with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and torso inside a vehicle. Fonseca was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel, the Star-Telegram previously reported.
Two witnesses told detectives they went to the location to retrieve a cellphone from Fonseca. When they arrived, they found him dead and called 911, police have said.
In an interview with homicide detectives, Martinez admitted to shooting Fonseca, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. Martinez said he went to the house where he was told Fonseca would be and saw him parked in the driveway. Martinez told police that he “blacked out and began shooting at Matthew,” according to the affidavit. After the shooting, he threw his gun into Lake Worth, Martinez told police.
One of the witnesses told police that when she found Fonseca dead, she initially thought he had killed himself, but then Martinez called and said, “I got you,” according to the affidavit.
