A Cleburne police officer was wounded and a suspect died in a shooting Monday evening after a police chase that ended at a Sam’s Club in Burleson, police said.
Cleburne police officers responded shortly before 7 p.m. to a report of an individual brandishing a firearm, police said in a release.
The individual was in a vehicle, and a pursuit began after officers arrived, according to police.
The pursuit continued through Alvarado and north on Interstate 35W before ending near Sam’s Club in Burleson at 600 N. Burleson Blvd. near Texas 174, police said.
Burleson police officers and EMS are also assisted on the scene, a Burleson police spokesperson said in a statement.
Police said shots were fired during the incident and the suspect, who has not been identified, was struck and died at the scene.
The officer with the Cleburne Police Department was shot in the leg and is in stable condition, police said.
There is no known threat to the community at this time; however, the public is asked to avoid the area while law enforcement conducts its investigation, officials said.
As per department protocol, the Texas Rangers will be investigating the shooting, according to the Cleburne Police Department.
