I recently found a deal that’s as rare as seeing a bearded lady.
It’s a deal cheaper than a Whatameal at Whataburger or a Double-Double meal at In-N-Out. Except this burger is served at a place that is locally-owned and also serves gourmet pub food with craft beers.
Normally, The Bearded Lady in South Main serves burgers for around $16. But on Wednesdays, they serve a double-smashed burger with fries for a fiver.
Yes, you read that right. On Wednesdays, guests can get a whole meal for $5.
This is cheaper than a large cheeseburger combo at local Burger Box restaurants.

Bearded Lady began on Magnolia Avenue as a cozy pub with an extensive beer menu. When owner Shannon Osbakken split from the former co-owner, she opened its current space at South Main with a larger menu and cocktail list.
Menu favorites include the fried leeks, dill pickle queso and fried dill pickle dip. Texas Monthly named the restaurant’s Lust Burger, a cheesy stuffed-poblano burger, as one of the best burgers in the state in 2016.
I found out about the restaurant’s Wednesday special when members of the Fort Worth Foodies Facebook group suggested their favorite cheap eats in Fort Worth. A few members recommended the Wednesday special, as well as the restaurant’s happy hour with a menu of drinks and snacks that are no more than $5.

This may be our cheapest column yet.
Though I could have gotten away with only spending $5, I couldn’t resist a fried pickle appetizer – which cost more than the smash burger meal itself and was completely unnecessary (but deliciously worth it).
What I should have done, and I recommend you do, is to go to Bearded Lady between 3 and 6 p.m. on Wednesday for a $5 appetizer, $5 margarita and the $5 smash burger meal.

Bearded Lady’s Happy Hour is Tuesdays through Fridays from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays also offer half-off drafts all day. Thursdays have $3 margaritas and live music.
The gastropub is located at 300 S. Main St. in Fort Worth. Open Sunday, Tuesday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Closed Mondays. No reservations as it is a first-come, first-serve seating basis.
