SUNLAND PARK, N.M. (KFOX14/CBS4) — Doña Ana County commissioners have approved an amended letter raising concerns about the City of Sunland Park annexing and potentially rezoning nearby land for development.

The action follows concerns from city leaders and residents about water and road conditions along the northwest municipal boundary of Sunland Park and Pete Domenici Highway.

Commissioners are urging Sunland Park to protect a buffer around the Santa Teresa Jetport.

They say the county has limited power to stop the annexation but may consider legal options, including eminent domain, to protect airport safety, nearby residents and the jetport’s approach corridor.

The item is scheduled for review by Sunland Park’s Planning and Zoning Commission tomorrow.

The City Council will then hold a hearing on Sept. 1.
