Nearly three years after an explosion inside the Sandman Signature Hotel’s basement rocked downtown, the Asian fusion restaurant, Musume, announced plans to reopen in early November.
The January 2024 explosion left 21 people injured and nearly leveled the hotel, which is also planning to reopen this year, according to the hotel’s website.
In a statement shared with WFAA, Musume officials say the Japanese concept was being reimagined with a sleek, modern design, fresh sushi flown in daily from Japan, and much more.
Multiple lawsuits were filed by victims, including employees of Musume, against property owners, management companies and gas suppliers, alleging in part that reports of a gas odor were ignored. Those lawsuits are still pending. The official cause of the blast has also not been determined, though investigators did find characteristics of a natural gas explosion.
Musume is reopening at its original location, in the lower levels of the W.T. Waggoner Building, at 810 Houston St.
