MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. – A 24-year-old Texas man working seasonally on Mackinac Island has been arrested and charged after an investigation into alleged online child sexual exploitation.
Morgan Charles Mitchell, 24, of Dalhart, Texas, faces five counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material, five counts of using a computer to commit a crime, and three counts of capturing or distributing an image of an unclothed person.
The investigation began after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Michigan State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received information that Mitchell may have accessed and shared illicit content online.
Mitchell was working seasonally on Mackinac Island when investigators received the tip.
Police said they obtained and executed a search warrant at his residence and seized digital evidence.
After the search, Mitchell left Mackinac Island and returned to Texas.
Michigan investigators said they worked with Texas law enforcement agencies to locate and arrest him.
Mitchell waived extradition and was transported back to Michigan.
He was arraigned Aug. 17 in 92nd District Court in Mackinac County.
The investigation involved assistance from the Mackinac County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, the Dalhart Police Department, and the Moore County Sheriff’s Department in Texas.
Michigan State Police encouraged parents to talk with their children about internet safety.
MSP said resources are available through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Michigan Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
