Damage was reported across North Texas on Wednesday night after a round of surprise storms moved through the area, public safety officials said.
In North Richland Hills, about 2,000 customers were without power after the storms, according to a Facebook post on the city’s page. At the height of the storm, public safety crews answered about 100 calls, most of which had to do with downed power lines, traffic signal malfunctions and concerns about gas leaks.
The areas most impacted are east of Rufe Snow Drive, south of Bursey Road, and north of Mid Cities Boulevard, according to the post. Photos from Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV show damage to a storefront in that area.
Oncor is still trying to determine what time power may be restored to customers, according to its online outage map.
“We greatly appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers and remain focused on doing all we can to restore the remaining outages as quickly and safely as possible,” the website reads. “If you see a downed power line, stay away, keep others and pets away and call 911 immediately. In addition to the downed line potentially being energized, anything touching the power line, such as debris and tree limbs, could also be energized.”
Officials in Keller also reported power outages and downed lines, according to a post on Facebook.
Willis Lane is closed between Ridgegate and North Tarrant parkways due to downed lines, and a traffic light is malfunctioning at Highway 377 and Farm to Market Road 1709, according to the post.
A ground stop issued earlier for Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport has since been lifted, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
North Texas remains under a heat advisory, with more chances for storms between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
