LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Texas Tech is celebrating a $30 million estate gift to the Edward E. Whitacre College of Engineering.
Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec says the money will be used to enhance support for endowed scholarships and professorships. He says it will help recruit more students and staff members.
It will also fund new facilities and enhance current facilities at the College of Engineering.
“When somebody, or a family makes a gift like this, I would say it’s very humbling. That people are so grateful for the impact that Texas Tech had on them, and they somehow want to provide a mechanism for expanding that impact. Making it possible for others. It makes it a grave responsibility to make sure we are good stewards of this money,” Schovanec said.
The gift given by the Davis family is the largest estate gift in the university’s history.
