LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The parents of a young woman are suing United Supermarkets and Albertsons. Police said a man sexually assaulted the woman inside a Lubbock Amigos grocery store bathroom in April.
The parents recently filed the lawsuit in Lubbock County.
In April, the probable cause affidavit showed Judah Hew later admitted to the attack. He told police he crawled under her stall in the women’s restroom, took her phone and sexually assaulted her.
Good Samaritans chased him down in a nearby neighborhood. Hew is still in jail on charges of sexual assault and indecent exposure.
The lawsuit claims the store and surrounding area had a history of robberies, assaults, and a prior indecent assault inside the store. It accuses United and Albertsons of failing to provide adequate security or warning to customers.
At the time, the United Family responded to the incident saying safety of guests and team members is a top priority, and it would increase security measures.
The victim’s family wants more than $1 million in damages. The companies say they do not comment on pending lawsuits.
