College volleyball is taking over AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Thursday, with four nationally ranked programs competing in a one-night tournament for a $1 million grand prize.
Nebraska, Florida, Penn State and SMU will take part in the first Spikes Under the Lights exhibition tournament.
The three-match event will open with Nebraska against Florida at 7 p.m., followed by Penn State against SMU. Both opening matches will be played as best-of-three sets. The winners will advance to a winner-take-all championship match, with $1 million on the line.
The grand prize is the largest cash prize ever for a women’s college sporting event.
The tournament will also serve as a homecoming for several players with North Texas ties.
Penn State’s Danielle Whitmire is from Celina, while Nebraska’s Keoni Williams is from Fort Worth.
SMU’s roster includes several North Texas players: Hannah Beauford from Prosper, Natalia Newsome from Arlington, Jadyn Livings from The Colony, Suli Davis from Euless, Favor Anyanwu from Rowlett and Levariya Pinder from Justin.
